The Sri Lanka Navy’s spokesman Commander D.K.P. Dassanayake reported the three suicide boats from the so-called Black Tigers of the Sea attacked Ruhuna and Nimalawa ships at 05:00 local hour, damaging the second.

The action took place near Kankasanthurai port in Jaffna peninsula.

Dassanayake said that navy troops working on board to provide security fired on the boats and managed to destroy two of them.

But the third one exploded very close to Nimalawa with considerable damage to its hull. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) confirmed the attack on the ships, which they said were transporting military supplies.
