Pakistani forces kill over 1,500 militants

Islamabad : Pakistani security forces have killed more than 1,500 militants in an operation in a tribal agency bordering Afghanistan, said an official on Saturday.

While talking to newsmen, Inspector General (IG) Frontier Core (FC) forces said that in the ongoing operation in Bajaur tribal agency more than 1,500 militants were killed.

He said another 950 were arrested including Afghan military men and foreigners of Uzbek, Tajik, Afghan, Hazara and other origins.

He added that 42 paramilitary troopers were also killed and 174 sustained injuries in the operation.

He said further the operation was still continuing and will take six to 12 more months to be completed, adding that eleven tribal Lashkars (forces) were helping forces in its efforts to eradicate militancy from the region.

Meanwhile, 14 more militants were killed in latest airstrikes in the agency by militant gunship helicopters.
