New Delhi : An angry mob Wednesday beat up a police constable when he allegedly tried to sexually assault a nine-year-old girl in an inebriated state in northwest Delhi.
Sukhbir lured the girl to a city park in Nangloi area while she was playing with other children in front of her house. The constable first offered her some chocolates and then attempted rape on her.
According to eyewitness accounts, the girl raised an alarm and called for help. The people nearby caught the constable and beat him up brutally.
The police were called and rescued Sukbhir from an infuriated mob. He was taken to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where he was recuperating. The police said doctors told them Sukbhir was under influence of alcohol when he was admitted in the hospital.
The police said they have registered a case of abduction and molestation and the accused constable would be arrested once he is discharged from the hospital.
The girl is a student of MCD primary school in the area. Her father is a scrap dealer.
