Chandigarh to host International Students Peace Festival

Chandigarh : This city is all set to host its third annual International Students Peace Festival from Sep 28 to Oct 1.

The education department of Chandigarh, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, New Delhi, Commonwealth Youth Asia Centre, Chandigarh and a local non-government organisation, Yuvsatta, will jointly organise this peace festival.

“Around 250 students from Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Iran and different states of India are expected to participate in this festival. They will reach here Sep 27, the World Tourism Day,” Parmod Sharma, coordinator of Yuvsatta told IANS Thursday.

“Such events will provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and culture through greater interaction among the students. This is the occasion when young people from different countries stay together, dine together and cultivate a special bond among them,” he said.

International partners in this festival are South Asia Partnership Club, Lahore, Centre for Youth Development and Activities, Sadikabad in Pakistan, Pakistan Peace Coalition club, Karachi and Hindu Vidyapeeth, Kathmandu in Nepal, Sharma added.

Different activities during this four-day festival include planting of trees in a peace garden, cooperative games, multi-cultural performances, documentary film show, a special sound and light show of Ramlila, painting competition, Eid celebrations, sight-seeing and kite flying show.
