SANA, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency, said preliminary investigations of the security authorities revealed that the explosion was caused by detonation of a car rigged with explosives, and placed at a road intersection leading to Saydah Zeinab.

The GMC Suburban with the plate number 83115 entered Syrian territory on September 26, the day before the blast, through a border post from a neighboring Arab country, SANA reported.

SANA said a terrorist drove the vehicle and detonated himself, noting that investigations were underway to identify further the attacker through DNA tests.

Meanwhile, detained suspects were interrogated for possible links with the bomber, also initially identified as a member of a hardline organization.

SANA did not reveal the country’s name that they believed the car was smuggled from.
The attack claimed 17 lives and injured 14 civilians.
