“Former BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu, party spokesperson Balbir Punj, state president Ramapati Ram Tripathi and others will meet Varun Gandhi at about 3 p.m.,” H.N. Dixit, spokesperson of the state BJP unit, told IANS.

During the meeting, the party leaders will discuss their poll strategy in Pilibhit.

Security in Etah district has been strengthened ahead of the arrival of the BJP leaders.

“We have deployed two companies of the PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) and RAF (Rapid Action Force) to check any kind of violence and untoward incident,” said police inspector Nawaab Singh.

Several barricades have been put up along the routes leading to the jail, added Singh.

Varun Gandhi was early Wednesday shifted from the prison in Pilibhit to a jail in Etah, an official said.

The Mayawati government had late Sunday invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against him for his reported hate speeches and mob violence during his arrest Saturday.
