Ali Azad’s remarks spark off protest in Jammu, Bhaderwah

Jammu: Members of Muslim community staged protest in front of the resident of Ghulam Ali Azad, brother of former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, over his remarks regarding the Babri Masjid and Article 370 in Jammu and Bhaderwah.

A large number of people from Gujjar Nagar and Talab Khatikan today assembled at Shaheedi Chowk and later marched towards the private residence of Azad at Gujjar Nagar. Shouting slogans against Azad, the protestors staged a sit in outside his residence.

One of the protesters Mohammed Majid told News Agency of Kashmir that Azad’s remarks over Babri Masjid have hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community in the entire world”.

He said that how Azad can justify the demolition of Babri Masjid and how he can ask the Muslim community to handover the medieval mosque to the members of other community for the construction of Temple”.

Another protester Azim Sheikh said, “Azad should be boycotted from the community”.

The protest continued for nearly an hour following which the protestors dispersed peacefully. However, some of the protestors threatened more such protests till Azad apologies for his remarks.

Reports from Bhaderwah revealed that people observed a partial shutdown in the evening as a mark of protest against the remarks of Azad.

Around a hundred people assembled at Jamia Masjid and staged a protest demonstration, sources told News Agency of Kashmir adding, and shopkeepers joined the protest and downed their shutters.

Ghulam Ali Azad is a real brother of former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who gave a major blow to his family and surprised political arena of the state by joining BJP ahead of parliamentary elections. He later, in a statement, justified demolition of Babri Majid and stand of BJP over Article 370.
