Islamabad : Pakistan has stepped up security for the Indian Sikh pilgrims visiting the Nankana Sahib gurdwara for the Baisakhi celebrations and have declared a curfew in the area, Geo TV reported
Wednesday.
The pilgrims would be provided strict security during their religious ceremonies at the gurdwara, which marks the birth place of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion, it said, quoting from an official statement.
Fire brigade vehicles and ambulances would be positioned at the shrine round-the-clock and the entry of people into the area around it would be closely monitored.
Some 3,000 Sikh pilgrims are estimated to have arrived at Nankana Sahib. This is the first group of Indian pilgrims to visit Pakistan following the chill in sub-continental ties in the wake of the Nov 26-29, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that claimed over 170 lives, including those of 26 foreigners.
