The six were members of a terrorist cell that had “confessed their plot to attack Camp Arifjan”, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by the official KUNA news agency.

The ministry said the men were also planning to attack the headquarters of Kuwait’s State Security service and other facilities in the Gulf country.

“Members of the terrorist cell said they had bought a truck, which they planned to fill with chemicals and explosives to attack Arifjan next week,” the al-Rai al-Aam newspaper quoted an unnamed security source as saying.

The source said the men also confessed to have undergone training in Kuwait on how to plant bombs.

Roughly 15,000 US troops are in Kuwait, which remains an important staging ground for soldiers on their way to Iraq.
