Abu Dhabi : Abu Dhabi International Airport has recorded strong growth in number of passengers despite the economic downturn, WAM news agency reported Saturday.
Passenger numbers for July exceeded 900,000, as figures showed that 923,124 people travelled through the airport in the month. This was 10.3 percent higher than the number in the same month in 2008.
India remained the largest market and the primary driver of traffic growth with an 18.9 percent increase in passengers, whilst Pakistan retained its second place.
The substantial increase in traffic can be attributed to the start of school holidays as well as the growing range of choice available to passengers at Abu Dhabi International Airport, with new routes launched by Etihad Airways to destinations including Athens, Larnaca and Istanbul.
