Mumbai : Mumbai’s moral police claimed ‘victory’ Saturday as young men and women marked Valentine’s Day on a quiet note, keeping away from attention grabbing celebrations.
While police presence was visible outside colleges, multiplexes, shopping malls and beaches – the usual haunt of V-Day couples, Shiv Sena activists said they too prowled the city in search of “deviant behaviour”.
“My activists are going to all these places since morning. But barring some V-Day cards and gifts, they did not find the youth indulging in anti-Indian culture, indecent or objectionable behaviour,” Shiv Sena south Mumbai district chief Arun Dudhwadkar told IANS.
He said there were no special V-Day parties or dances in various hotels and restaurants.
“It appears that Indian cultural ethos are finally returning. This is a good sign for the future of our youth and we hope that they don’t deviate from this path,” Dudhwadkar added.
A student said the young celebrated inside college compounds so as not to get into any trouble.
Aarti Phadakale of Thakur College in north Mumbai said most students only exchanged roses or gifts with friends.
