Srinagar : Those who advocate violence should learn from the people of Jammu and Kashmir who expressed their faith in democracy by participating in the state assembly polls, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi said Saturday while inaugurating the new Srinagar International Airport here.
“Those sowing seeds of hatred among communities are actualy friends of none. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have expressed faith in democracy by participating in the assembly polls from which those who believe in violence should learn a lesson,” she maintained.
Through a satellite link, Gandhi also flagged off a train service from Budgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in the north.
The train service was earlier till Srinagar and now connects north and south Kashmir – a 100 km stretch.
The event was attended by Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz and former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad among others.
