New Delhi: Muslim graveyards and other religious places in Munger district of Bihar are virtually out of bound for Muslims for some time – two of them are under prohibitory order of Article 144 and one has recently been illegally and forcibly occupied by miscreants of other community.

For some time the miscreants have been trying to occupy the Karbala graveyard spreading over several acres in Makhsoospur area of the district. Encouraged by the silence of the local administration and the government the anti-social elements have taken over the land and opened a truck stand there but the administration has not yet moved.

A couple of weeks ago, the miscreants had stopped the fencing work of the Karbala graveyard and looted the construction materials. The administration did not take any action. Emboldened the miscreants took out a demonstration demanding that the Qabrastan be changed as Kabir Asthan or Kali Asthan or a school.

The Ganj Shaheedan graveyard spreading over 1.5 acre is under the prohibitory order of Article 144 for long. This graveyard is the final rest of, besides others, Mir Qasim’s soldiers who were killed in the freedom battle of 1763.

Besides, the anti-social elements have also been eyeing the land of Imam Bada in Kallu Bada area. The Imam Bada has also been put under the 144 prohibitory order for one year. The administration is yet to take any decision.

Munger is considered a sensitive area and anti-social elements here today are emboldened chiefly because of the less-than-fair role of the administration. The situation also exposes the state government’s claim of taking care of the minority community.
