New Delhi : A Delhi Police officer and four colleagues remained on the run Saturday after being accused of corruption, extortion and stealing.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said it was collecting evidence before moving to catch Assistant Commissioner of Police Chandra Has and the four others, ACB chief N. Dilip Kumar said.
“We are investigating the matter and gathering adequate evidence before we make any arrest,” Kumar, an additional commissioner of police, told IANS.
“We want to interrogate Chandra Has in a corruption case. But he is untraceable. We want to question him and examine his role at all aspects,” he added.
ACB, a wing of the Delhi government, registered a case of corruption against Chandra Has and four of his junior colleagues Friday following a sting operation.
Chandra Has, an assistant commissioner in the special staff of northwest Delhi Police, and the others are accused of stealing 74 kg of sliver, demanding bribe, extorting money and illegally detaining a goldsmith.
The ACB took up the investigations following the complaint of New Seelampur resident Shekhavat Khan, who alleged that his brother Afzal was illegally detained by Delhi Police.
Khan alleged that he paid Rs.400,00 in bribe for his brother’s release but the officials at the special staff were demanding more money.
A senior Delhi Police official said on condition of anonymity that Chandra Has was to join the security wing of Delhi Police but had not reported for duty.
“We are waiting for the ACB report and then will decide the fate of the five men,” said the official.
