Agartala : Slogan shouting opposition members and bedlam Tuesday forced Tripura Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya to leave the assembly without completing his customary speech in the opening session of the year.
“Please allow me to read out my speech. You are always welcome to meet me to submit your issues, topics and problems. I know your subject of discussion,” the governor told the unrelenting opposition members.
The ruckus started when opposition members raised the issues of meningitis deaths in northern Tripura and salary hike for state government employees at par with the central government.
As soon as the month-long budget session of the Tripura assembly began, slogan shouting opposition Congress-Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) members demanded resignation of the health minister.
The governor left the assembly after reading 2-3 pages of the 17-page written speech.
Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath said: “More than 60 people died and thousands fell sick after meningitis turned epidemic in northern Tripura during the past one month.”
