Shimla : A foreigner was allegedly beaten up by at least six people and detained for more than three hours here, the police said Monday.
Rafiq Kasim, a national of Australia and the Netherlands, was beaten up Sunday night at the Rajgarh town of Sirmaur district, Superintendent of Police J.P. Singh told IANS.
Kasim, who is working for a Holland-based tour and travel company, has been staying in an orchard for the past three weeks.
“I was detained for more than three hours in my room and beaten up by at least six persons, belonging to the same area. I have informed the Netherlands High Commission about the incident,” Kasim said by telephone.
However, neither Kasim nor the police confirmed the reason for the assault. But local people said they were resisting the plans of Kasim to open his hotel in the area.
