Riyadh : About 86 Islamic relief agencies, including the Riyadh-based World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) and the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO), have joined hands to raise donations and distribute relief in the Gaza Strip. “A proposal has been made to coordinate efforts in relief supplies on the regional level following a two-day meeting of the International Islamic Council for Da’wah and Relief (IICDR) in Cairo, which concluded yesterday,” said WAMY Secretary General Dr. Saleh Al-Wohaibi.
The meeting in Cairo was chaired by Grand Imam of Al Azhar Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, who is also the chief of Al-Azhar University. Asked about the details of the proposals, Al-Wohaibi said details are yet to come from Cairo, adding that the meeting in Egypt mainly discussed issues on how to send relief supplies to the war-torn regions of Palestinian territory, how to unite in raising more supplies and how to complement government efforts.
