EU sends experts to assess Gaza humanitarian situation

Praugue : The current Czech leadership of the European Union (EU) sent three humanitarian conditions experts to Gaza Strip in order to assess the situation and aid needed.

The team consists of two employees at the Czech Foreign Ministry and one from the Czech development agency, the Czech press agency cited sources at the ministry as saying.

The team is sent in coordination with the United Nations and the EU commissions.

A report will be presented by mid 2009 to the EU members, showcasing the team’s activities and findings.

According to Hamas assessment, damage caused by the 23-day Israeli military campaign on Gaza Strip is estimated at USD 1.9 billion. The bombardment demolished 5,000 residential buildings, 200 mosques and 20,000 homes.
