New Delhi: At least 11 people including a 75-year-old woman were injured when a gas cylinder in a car blew off in east Delhi Tuesday, police said.
The cylinder blew off when Robin Ahuja, a businessman, was refilling the CNG kit of his Santro car outside his residence in Geeta Colony illegally with a cooking gas cylinder around 1 p.m., according to police.
The impact of the explosion was such that the car and a motorbike standing near it caught fire that also spread to Ahuja’s house as well his neigbhour’s house, police said.
Four fire-fighting engines were pressed into service to douse the flames.
Sudesh Ahuja, 75, and five other family members, identified as Seema, 35, Rakesh, 45, Kunal, 5, Bhawana, 6, and Natasha, 15, sustained injuries.
Santosh Sharma, the neighbour whose house caught fire, also received injuries.
“All of them were rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where the condition of Sudesh and Bhawana was very critical. Others have been discharged after first aid,” said a policemen adding that the matter under investigation.
