“Two inspectors and two constables of the Pakaulia police station in Basti have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty,” acting superintendent of police Ajai Shanker Rai told IANS on telephone. Basti is 275 km from here.

Rai said investigations reveal that the policemen had not lodged the case following the murder of Suswa in the Mahadeva village in Basti.

“The policemen had turned away the boy’s parents when they reached the police station to register the case against three villagers for killing their son,” said Rai.

Suswa was beaten to death June 5 by a group of villagers over a land dispute with the father of the deceased. “The villagers attacked Suswa with sticks and rods and killed him,” Rai added.

The three accused in the murder case are absconding.
