An amount of Rs.10 lakh was given to the dependents of the six people who died in police firing last month. The cabinet has also decided to give Rs.5 lakh to Nisamudheen (24), who had a leg amputated due to injuries in the firing. Shamsudheen who is undergoing treatment for serious injuries will get Rs.3 lakh. These will be distributed soon, said the CM.

The police firing in Beemapalli near Thiruvananthapuram took place on 17th May when some clashes arose between the people of Beemapalli and Cheriyathura. Six people were killed and many seriously injured in the incident. The police tried to project it as communal clash whereas the real reason was the inaction of the police in controlling the goons of the area. Muslim organizations formed a common platform to raise their voice against the inhuman police acts and to ensure justice to the victims of the shootout. A joint committee of the Beemapalli Masjid and the Cheriyathura Parish too was formed to reinstate peace and friendly relations between the two communities.
