Baghdad : Iraqi Vice-President Adel Abdul-Mahdi here on Tuesday evening praised Iran’s key role in promotion of Islamic civilization and creation of positive regional developments.
He made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
He reiterated that Iran and Iraq would not let any obstacle appear in the two countries’ bilateral relations.
Abdul-Mahdi stressed that Tehran-Baghdad amicable ties and the existing unity between the two nations would bring positive achievements to the entire region.
Expressing his pleasure with the current visit to Iraq of Ayatollah Rafsanjani, he said the visit is an indication to the importance of bilateral relations for both countries.
For his part, Rafsanjani referred to Iraq as a center for great Muslim ulema.
He expressed hope that the Iraqi officials would turn their country to an exemplary state in the region.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the latest regional developments and issues of mutual interests including further expansion of Tehran-Baghdad ties.
Rafsanjani, heading a political and religious delegation, arrived in Baghdad on an official visit on Monday.
This is the first visit to Iraq by Rafsanjani since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.
