India capable of withstanding impact of eco crisis in better way

New Delhi : India is capable of withstanding the impact of economic crises in better way than any other government in the world, said Pranab Mukherjee.

“With an investment rate of close to 40 percent and saving rate of similar range it is easy for the government to deal with the menace”, India’s External Affairs Minister Friday said while addressing the India Today Conclave-2009 at Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.

The role of the government in our country has been from an initiator to regulator and now become the facilitator of change.

Mukherjee drove home the message powerfully that government intervention has increased as a facilitator of change.

Meanwhile, Buddhist spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, inaugurating the conclave urged India to take a more active role in promoting religious harmony and peace in the world.

Hailing Indian Secularism he called for initiating dialogue for addressing disagreements or dissatisfaction among certain sections of population.

He asserted that there is no scope for force, violence or terror for resolution of any issue and cautioned that violence and terror bring only disaster and destruction to humanity and advocated for compassion, tolerance and human brother hood across the globe.

Condemning the terrorist violence, former French Prime Minister, Dominique De Villepin strongly while addressing the conclave, advocated for a global law to deal with this problem.

He said that India is emerging at the world stage and it is high time it is granted the membership of the UN Security Council besides becoming the permanent member of the G-8 group of Nations.

India Today Group Chairman and Editor-in-chief Aroon Purie in a welcome address said: “Datelines of terror have multiplied in India and this is the first conclave that has begun in the shadow of terror”.

Threat of terrorism to global peace and impact global economic crises are at the centre of discussion at the two-day Conclave which began in New Delhi Friday.
