“The IPL and election schedules are overlapping and rescheduling seems unaviodable,” Chidambaram told reporters.

“I don’t blame the IPL management at all. They finalised their dates earlier. But once the election commission announced the election dates on Monday, I saw that the election and IPL schedules were completely overlapping,” he said.

Chidambram said the IPL has come up with a new schedule and the government will help the IPL hold matches.

The general elections are scheduled to be held April 16-May 13, while counting will take place May 16. The IPL will be held April 10-May 24.
