BJP announces first list for Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad : The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Andhra Pradesh unit president Bandaru Dattatreya will be the party’s candidate for the Secunderabad Lok Saba seat while actor K. Naresh will contest from Hindupur.

Their names figured in the first list of candidates announced by the BJP Friday for eight Lok Sabha and 43 assembly constituencies.

BJP’s national secretary N. Indrasena Reddy will fight elections from the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency while another former legislator Baddam Bal Reddy will contest from Chevella.

The other candidates for the Lok Sabha seats are Sanyasi Raju (Vijaynagaram), N. Vekataswamy (Tirupati), D.V. Subba Rao (Visakhapatnam) and K. Bojaiah (Araku).

Simultaneous elections to the 294-member assembly and 42 Lok Sabha seats will be held in two phases on April 16 and April 23.

Dattatreya, who was elected thrice as MP from Secunderabad, had lost the 2004 elections to Congress party’s Anjan Kumar Yadav. He also served as union minister of state for railways and urban development during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime.
