Himachal governor calls for more agriculture-based industries

Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Governor Prabha Rau Thursday emphasised the need for setting up more agriculture and horticulture-based industries and processing units in the state for improving the status of small and marginal farmers.

Speaking at the state-level national productivity award ceremony for micro, small and medium entrepreneurs here, Rau said potato chips processing units could be started in the Lahaul valley to help potato growers.

“In addition to fruits and off-season vegetable processing units in the state, potato chips processing units could also be started in the Lahaul valley, which is known for producing best-quality potatoes,” she said.

Companies like Hetro Lab Ltd, Acme Formulation Ltd, MDC Pharmaceutical Ltd, Aromatrix Flora Ltd, Aroma Aromatics and Flavours, Shivambu International and Ayush Herbs Ltd were honoured at the event for their contribution in pharmaceutical, food processing and herbal industries.
