Judeo, Renu Jogi file poll papers in Chhattisgarh

Raipur : Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) flamboyant leader Dilip Singh Judeo and his rival Renu Jogi of the Congress were among candidates who filed their nomination papers Friday in Chhattisgarh.

Judeo, a former union minister, led a massive procession in Bilaspur town to file papers before the district returning officer.

His rival Renu, wife of former chief minister Ajit Jogi, too showed her popularity with an impressive rally and filed her papers.

State Congress working president Charandas Mahant filed nominations at Korba town to revive his rivalry with Vajpayee’s niece Karuna Shukla, who is also the BJP national vice-president.

Korba is a new seat created through delimitation and in 2004, Mahant and Shukla contested from Janjgir seat that is now reserved for Scheduled Castes candidate.

The Congress’ Bhupesh Baghel filed his papers here for Raipur seat to take on the BJP’s five-time MP Ramesh Bais.

Both the leaders – Baghel and Bais – belong to other backward class that comprises over 50 percent of state’s 20.08 million population.

The last date for filing nomination in Chhattisgarh is March 30.
