Sensex up 306 points in afternoon trade

Mumbai : Indian equities markets were in a comeback mode about 90 minutes before closing bell Tuesday, with a key index ruling 306 points higher than its previous close after dipping into the red earlier.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 11,629.97 points, was ruling 311.94 points or 2.67 percent higher at 11,994.93 points.

Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), gained 2.31 percent from the previous close to trade at 3,636.6 points.

Broader market indices were also ruling in the green, with the BSE midcap index gaining 0.28 percent and the BSE smallcap index moving up 0.77 percent.

IT, telecom and banking stocks were leading the rally on the BSE.
