CH Muhammed Koya Memorial Awards presented to AG Noorani and Burkha Dutt

Kochi: The measures taken by the central government after the submission of the Sachar Committee Report are the examples for the realisation of CH Muhammed Koya’s dreams, said Union Defence Minister AK Antony. He added that the relevance of CH was increasing day by day. He was presenting the CH Muhammed Koya Memorial Journalism Awards in Calicut yesterday.

Mr Antony said that the dreams of CH were being realised in the national level also. CH led the neglected community forward through education. He fought through political interventions when social justice was not provided. He could also keep good friendship with all sections even while fighting for the oppressed minorities without any compromise, he added.

The awards instituted by the CH Muhammed Koya Memorial Trust and the Caciut Press Club were presented to AG Noorani (columnist) and Burkha Dutt (NDTV group editor). The award consists of Rs 1,11,011 and certificate.

Kerala and Kashmir are noted for their secularism, said AG Noorani, receiving his award. Temples, churches and masjids can be seen together in both states. The significance of the people in these states is simple living and high thinking, he added. Burkha Dutt opined that Kerala was now enjoying the results of what CH Muhammed Koya had done for social justice and educational development. She added that the country had acknowledged the fight of CH against fanaticism and activities against national unity.

E Ahmed, Union Minister of State for Railways, delivered a speech in memory of CH Muhammed Koya. PK Kunhalikkutty, Muslim state general secretary, presented the certificates. Dr MK Muneer introduced the award-winners. PA Ibrahim Haji, chairman of the CH Muhammed Koya Trust, presided over the function. PV Abdul Vahab (MP), MK Raghavan (MP), Kamal Varadoor (state treasurer of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists), PV Gangadharan (president of the Malabar Chamber of Commerce), R Madhushanker (president of the Press Club) and Nadukkandi Aboobaker (treasurer of the Press Club) also spoke.
