The conference, co-organized by the two exchanges in support of the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) initiative, will be held in Seoul on Thursday with the aim of sharing Malaysia’s Islamic finance experience and promoting opportunities in the Malaysian Islamic capital market to South Korean investors and issuers.

Bursa Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Yusli Mohamed Yusoff said in a statement here Monday: “We hope this conference will stimulate interest in the Syariah compliant products which are currently in demand from investors who are seeking returns from alternative investments.”

The conference will be also timely as there is strong interest for South Korea to grow the Islamic finance industry amidst proposed liberalisation measures by the government to allow the issuance of sukuk (Islamic bonds), among other productss.

The proposals are expected to be passed by the South Korean National Assembly later this year.

Members of the MIFC initiative, comprising senior management of the central bank of Malaysia, the Securities Commission of Malaysia and Bursa Malaysia, will be participating in the conference.
