Bhubaneswar: Six children have died of malaria in last seven days in Malkangiri district of Orissa, an official said Monday.
The deaths have been reported from the district’s Siadimal village.
“Six children have died of malaria. We have taken blood samples and have found some positive cases. Apart from the children, another man had died recently in the village. We have stationed a medical team there as some villagers have been affected and are undergoing treatment,” said district Chief Medical Officer R.K. Ghose.
The district administration has also launched a sanitisation drive and preventive measures in the area.
“The entire district is a malaria prone district and deaths happen every year. Since the deaths have been reported from a single village, we are taking a serious note of it. We are trying to fill up the swampy areas and making people aware of how to protect themselves,” Ghose added.
