Kolkata: India’s largest auto maker Tata Motors is aiming 50-60 percent growth in the production of its light commercial vehicles (LCV) in 2009-10, a top company official said here Tuesday.
“We’re expecting a growth of about 50-60 percent in the production of our LCV units in 2009-10. We think there will be a huge demand of these light trucks as the service industry is poised to grow at a massive rate in the near future,” Tata Motors sales and marketing head (LCV) Anil Kapur told reporters.
After introducing company’s three new entrants in the LCV segment — Tata 407 Pickup, Tata Super Ace and Tata Ace EX — he said last year the total production of Tata Ace and Tata Magic was around 80,000 and 37,000 units respectively.
“We’re trying to increase the production of Tata Ace and Tata Magic to 1.2 lakh and 65,000 units respectively this year,” Kapur said.
“We’ve already started increasing the monthly production capacity of LCV units from 10,000-15,000.”
Tata Ace has witnessed about 26 percent growth in the cargo segment while Tata Magic saw a growth of 37 percent in the passenger car category last year.
“We’ll also increase the production of Tata Super Ace, a newly-launched one-tonne payload light truck, from 6,000 units to 12,000 units next year,” Kapur said.
