Science Express, a 16-coach fully air conditioned train housing the exhibition showcasing cutting-edge research in science and technology, will be in Delhi till April 9.

The museum-cum-exhibition is a joint initiative of the ministry of science and technology, the Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Centre, Germany-based Max-Planck-Gesellschaft company and Indian Railways.

The train, on its third journey since 2008, will travel to 56 locations and 18,000 km during this phase. It would halt at each location for a few days during which it will remain open to visitors comprising mainly students.

“It was a great experience to visit the Science Express and to know a lot many things which we study in textbooks,” said Niti Singh, a Class 8 student.

Over 50 lakh people have so far visited the exhibition across the country.

“The exhibition strives to reveal the relevance of science in everyday life. It attempts to develop scientific temper among students and encourage them to pursue careers in science,” Science and Technology Minister Prithviraj Chavan said here.

The first phase, an Indo-German project, was flagged off by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in November 2008. The train has travelled to more than 100 cities, covering over 32,000 km across India.
