Tehran : Iran is ready to swap low enriched uranium for 20-percent enriched uranium, but only after the West wins back Tehran’s trust, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation has said.
“The only thing we are looking for is the objective guarantee in order to make sure that we get the 20-percent enriched uranium,” Ali Akbar Salehi said in an interview with Press TV Wednesday.
“But, unfortunately they have not been able to respond to our need for the objective guarantee. They insisted the Iranian 3.5 percent fuel should leave the country and then the country should wait until they prepare the 20-percent enriched fuel and then there’s no guarantee that we will receive the 20-percent,” he added.
“So from our side we are insisting on the objective guarantee and we think the only way that the objective guarantee can be materialised or realised is to put the’ (low enriched uranium) under the supervision and custody of the IAEA (UN nuclear watchdog) in Iran,” he explained.
A research laboratory in Tehran that produces medicine for cancer patients is running out of fuel. To meet the demand, Iran has already produced five kilograms of 20-percent enriched uranium, the report said.
