Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were injured early Friday when Maoist guerrillas fired at a patrolling party in Porahat jungle of West Singhbhum district, around 170 km from here. The security personnel returned fire and a rebel was killed, a police official said.

The injured CRPF troopers are said to be out of danger and police have recovered SLR magazines and live cartridges from the shootout site.

The second incident also took place Friday morning in Garwah district as Maoists killed a man in Chapiyamadgadh village charging him of being a police informer.

On Thursday night, two people were killed by Maoists at Lanjo village in West Singhbhum district. The outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist guerrillas left behind a pamphlet that said the two victims were falsely collecting money in the name of their organisation.

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of Jharkhand.
