The decision, taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, will benefit 650 freedom fighters in the capital.

“The pension of freedom fighters has been hiked from Rs.3,500 to Rs.4,500 per month with effect from July 1, 2010,” said Dikshit.

The pension was last revised in October 2004.

Dikshit said the city government will have to incur an expenditure of Rs.7.8 million per annum following the decision.
