Introduction of Mandarin in CBSE syllabus hailed

New Delhi: The government Monday hailed the introduction of Mandarin Chinese language studies in the curriculum of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), saying it will be a trust building measure between India and China.

“The introduction of Chinese in schools will increase trust between the two countries. It will help prepare the younger generation to understand China better,” said Gautam Bambawale, joint secretary (China) in the external affairs ministry.

“It will be a confidence building measure,” he added.

The CBSE is to introduce Mandarin Chinese studies in schools starting from Class 6 from the new academic session 2011-12.
