She said the Lok Manch had been floated as a “non-political” outfit by Amar Singh and she will work in it to reach out to people.

“I will work in Lok Manch and go to downtrodden people,” Jaya Prada told the CNN-IBN news channel.

Denying that she was under influence of Amar Singh, Jaya Prada noted she was a three-time MP and “not a small kid”.

However, the actor-turned politician who won the last two elections as SP candidate from Rampur, added that Amar Singh had brought her to Uttar Pradesh from politics of Andhra Pradesh and had stood by her.

“I did not know about SP. The party knew that we are from the film world,” she said, naming Sanjay Dutt and Jaya Bachachan as other actors who had worked for the party.

Asked if other actor-turned-politicians will also leave the SP, she said Dutt had already resigned from his post.

“I have heard that she (Jaya Bachchan) is feeling bad and humiliated,” Jaya Prada said.

Jaya Prada also took a swipe at the SP leadership. “He (the leader) has to take disciplinary measures so that the party remains united,” she said, adding, “If he acts in the interest of family members, it gives a wrong impression to people.”

Responding to Amar Singh’s decision to work for computer literacy in Azamgarh, she said the former SP leader has an “emotional binding” with the place as his roots were there.

Recounting her “new experience”, she said politics was not for “good people who really want to serve the downtrodden”.

“One has to play dirty in politics,” she added.

Jaya Prada Sunday lashed out at detractors of Amar Singh in the SP, saying they would be responsible for any deterioration in his health.

She named newly-appointed party general secretary Mohan Singh as a leader who had used intemperate language against Amar Singh.
