Top professors booked for cheating, fraud

New Delhi : Professors from prestigious varsities like Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and officials of the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) have been booked under various charges of cheating and fraud, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Friday.

The CBI has registered two separate cases.

In the first case the accused are G.B. Singh, professor school of computer & system sciences in JNU, D.K. Garg, professor electronics & communication engineering department of National Institute of Technology in Kurukshetra (Haryana); M.K. Jha, professor and head of department of chemical engineering at the National Institute of Technology in Jalandhar, Narender Singh, deputy director at AICTE secretariat in Delhi and Ram Kumar Bhaskar, president of Jaipur based Rajdhani Educational Welfare Society.

“They transpired to cheat the AICTE in th matter of granting recognition to the college in Renwal village of Jaipur on the basis of false documents in 2008. We have conducted in Jaipur, Kurukshetra, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Delhi and recovered incriminating documents, huge cash, assets in the form of immovable property,” a CBI officer said.

In a similar case the CBI booked R.S. Gupta, professor, University of Delhi, D.B.S. Verma, professor B.P.S. Mahila Mahavidhyalaya in Sonepat; D.K. Garg, professor electronics & communication engineering department at National Institute of Technology in Kurukshetra (Haryana); S.P. Singh, the then regional officer AICTE in Chandigarh and Ashish Gupta, secretary of Jaipur based Pooja Educational Society.

“A case was registered against on the allegations that the accused while working as public servants abused their official positions and entered into criminal conspiracy with Gupta to cheat the AICTE in the matter of granting recognition to an engineering and technology in the same village of Jaipur in 2008 on the basis of false documents,” the officer added.
