Cold wave sweeps parts of Orissa

Bhubaneswar : A cold wave swept parts of Orissa Saturday with the state’s Phulbani town recording a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, an official said.

The other places where the minimum temperature was low included Sundergarh (6.4 degrees), Sambalpur (6.5 degrees), Angul (8 degrees) and Jharsuguda (8.7 degrees), an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

The state capital Bhubaneswar and its adjoining Cuttack city were also affected by the cold wave, recording minimum temperatures of 12.8 and 12.5 degrees Celsius respectively, he said.

Many of the coastal towns, however, remained warmer, he said. While the beach town of Puri recorded a minimum of 14.8 degrees Celsius, the port towns of Paradip and Gopalpur recorded minimum temperatures of 13 and 15.1 degrees Celsius respectively Saturday, the official said.

Cold wave conditions will prevail over many parts of the state during the 24 hours to Sunday eveninng, the official added.
