New Delhi : Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has been voted the most popular youth leader in the country, says a survey released Wednesday.
Trinmool Congress leader and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan came next in the line among the favourite leaders.
The survey conducted among 33,000 people in 33 cities by the Centre for Media and Cultural Research found that leaving a few youth leaders in the country, the rest have little knowledge of the philosophy of politics.
As many as 65 percent respondents saw Gandhi as the most honest, straightforward and trustworthy youth leader. The scion of the Gandhi family is also seen as the person most sensitive to the problems of the common man.
People welcomed Gandhi’s initiative in holding meetings with students on university campuses and want him to follow the footsteps of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, and find time to meet people.
“As for the organisational and administrative abilities and foresight, Mamata Banerjee and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have been voted the highest,” said Ram Shastri, chairman of the organisation.
The survey also concluded that there is a big gap between the ideology and the philosophy of the political parties and that of youth leaders.
The respondents consider Banerjee as the most aware youth leader as far as party ideology is concerned.
“The respondents have taken a serious note of the lukewarm stand taken by the youth leaders to the problem of escalating prices and most of them have not been able to launch an agitation on the issue,” he said.
