Campus Front welcomes Centre’s move to close deemed universities

By TCN News,

New Delhi: Campus Front of India has welcomed the Central Government’s decision to shut down all deemed universities in the country, saying such universities have been exploiting students. But the students group termed the move unsatisfactory and demanded complete halt on commercialization of education.

Addressing Campus Front of India Delhi state committee meeting, its General Secretary Mohammad Anisujjaman said “the decision of central government to abolish deemed universities is a laudable development.” Students have long been subjected to arbitrary governance and exploitation by the deemed universities, he further said.

“It is the Governments which started giving deemed status and now abolishes the same thing. But the fundamental question of basic infrastructure for education remains unresolved. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal is moving forward with his neoliberalisation drive in the education field. And he is on the way to start foreign campuses but none of the reputed international universities are willing to come,” Anisujjaman said.

“To Campus Front the abolition of deemed universities is far from satisfactory. We demand complete halt on commercialization of education. The failure of deemed universities should be a lesson to the government in its privatization drive,” Anisujjaman added.
