Johannesburg: Nelson Mandela arrived at the World Cup final in Soccer City Sunday to a tumult of cheers, delivering the perfect finishing touch to the historic tournament.
Mandela, the 91-year-old symbol of South African democracy, was key in landing Africa’s first World Cup but was forced to miss the opening ceremony following the tragic death of his great grand-daughter in a car crash.
