New Delhi: International Hockey Federation (FIH) chief Leandro Negre said “egos” and “political issues” are proving to be the stumbling blocks in Hockey India election.
Negre said the May 31st deadline for the election will not be extended. He advised various factions of the state bodies to bury their differences for the interest of Indian hockey.
”There will be no more deadlines after May 31st. We have given enough time. For nearly three years, we have been trying to set up a unified elected body in India. I have personally spoken to the stakeholders. This is my eighth or ninth visit here,” Negre told reporters.
“India is the only country which does not have men and women’s teams under one umbrella. I understand that India is a huge country and there are many problems. I think ego clashes and political issues are the problem.”
Negre, however, said the things are looking up this time .
“I have spoken to various people during my stay here and the signs are positive. I can’t say much about the judicial process, but even if 30 state units are ready for the election I believe we can go ahead with it.”
”Obviously, we can also speak to the remaining ones for a compromise.”
Negre said he is very happy with the organistion of the World Cup here.
