Chennai: S.S. Ramasubbu of the Congress and Hansraj Gangaram Ahir of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were honoured here Saturday for their active participation in various debates in the Lok Sabha.
Prime Point Foundation, a city-based NGO, felicitated the MPs also for raising a large number of questions.
Ramasubbu represents Tirunelvelli constituency in Tamil Nadu while Ahir is a three-time MP from Chandrapur in Maharashtra.
Ramasubbu was the top performer among the 39 MPs from Tamil Nadu. He asked 224 questions and participated in 20 debates.
Ahir asked 255 questions and took part in 20 debates and nine private member bills till March 31 this year.
“I raised questions about roads, drinking water, education and jobs for rural people. About 80 percent of questions were on national issues and 20 percent pertained to my constituency,” Ahir told IANS.
The foundation also felicitated three NGOs – India Sudar, Dream India, Helping Minds – run by young software professionals to help poor students.
“It is important to recognise and honour performances of people involved in public life. Similarly, there are several unsung heroes amongst us who need to be brought to light,” said foundation trustee K. Srinivasan.
