New Delhi : A total of 344 train accidents in the last three years killed 204 people and led to property loss of Rs.155.27 crore to the Indian Railways, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said Friday.
The total number of accidents caused by bomb blasts are 12, the minister said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
In order to prevent sabotage by miscreants and to ensure safe and secure journey, the ministry has deployed Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police in vulnerable areas.
An integrated security system has been approved to strengthen surveillance mechanism at 202 vulnerable stations.
