There was a huge rush of people looking for tickets near the stadium’s gate number 16, close to the Metro station.

“I have been waiting outside the ticket counter for the last two hours but there is nobody at the counter. Some of the volunteers have told us that all the tickets are sold and there is no possibility to get tickets. But I am making a last effort to buy the ticket,” said Satish Singh, a resident of east Delhi.

Some people were looking for extra tickets for their friends and relatives.

“I have one ticket and want to buy two more as my friends decided at the eleventh hour that they want to come for the opening ceremony. But I think it is not possible,” said Rajani Gupta, a resident of Rohini.

The tickets for the opening ceremony were priced at Rs.50,000, Rs.25,000, Rs.5,000 and Rs.1,000.

“No tickets are available now for the opening ceremony, we have sold every ticket. We only have some tickets of the closing ceremony left with us,” an official of the CWG Organising Committee said.

Some 6,700 athletes from 71 countries and territories will vie for 829 medals in 17 disciplines at the Games.
