Chennai : The Communist Party of India (CPI) here Wednesday demanded setting up of a parliamentary committee to have dialogue with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, instead of an interlocutor.
Addressing the media here, CPI General Secretary A.B. Bardhan said: “Instead of an interlocutor to oversee and review the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the centre should set up a parliamentary committee that can hold dialogue with different sections of the society there.”
According to him, the “appointment of an interlocutor is a fruitless exercise”.
He also urged the central government to withdraw the AFSPA and cited such a demand also exists in the states located in the northeast.
However, Bardhan welcomed the central government’s decision to remove 16 security bunkers and urged the government to remove more such bunkers.
Terming the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya issue as a “weak judgment”, Bardhan said the apex court is expected to give the final verdict as the parties to the dispute can approach it.
