Lucknow : Referring to the assault on a woman police officer earlier this week in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi said here Saturday that the state government has failed in maintaining law and order.
Three traffic constables Thursday assaulted Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena and dragged her over a distance while fleeing in their car after she caught them extorting money in Bareilly, some 300 km from Lucknow. The three have been suspended.
“A senior police officer is roughed up by her subordinates while performing her duty. If a police officer is not safe, what about the public,” Joshi told a gathering while inaugurating the two-day state executive meet of the party.
“The incident exposes the law and order situation prevailing in the state. However, I am quite surprised that even after such an incident, women in the state, particularly those in the party, have not got into much action,” said Joshi.
The BJP leader called upon the party activists, especially the women workers, to take up the Bareilly issue in a big way against the state government.
“We have to unmask the government… Such issues must be taken up to fight against the state government that has failed to instil a sense of security among the public,” said Joshi.
