Patna : Veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption campaign has gathered huge support in Bihar, with the young and old coming forward to press for a more stringent anti-corruption law.
Reports reaching here from different districts say that men and women have staged protests and launched signature campaigns in support of Anna Hazare, who is on a fast in New Delhi.
“All of us are fed up and angry over the rampant corruption we face in day to day life,” said filmmaker Osama Khan.
Student Vineet Rai, in his 20s, said he was happy corruption was becoming an agenda and people openly talked about it.
“Corruption is a big hurdle for development. If Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption campaign forces the central government to bring a more comprehensive Lokpal (ombudsman) bill to fight corruption in public life, it will be a turning point for India,” he said.
Satyanarain Madan, 55, a social activist, said Anna Hazare’s fast for a more stringent anti-corruption law had got overwhelming support in Bihar.
Mukesh Prasad Sinha, a retired government official, said Anna Hazare had emerged as an icon in Bihar.
Businessman Sanjeev Singh said: “People have to unite for Anna Hazare’s movement.”
